About the Department

Vel-Tech-University-MECH-1-768x512The Department started in the year 2001, and produces graduates, who can meet the rapidity changing needs of the mechanical core industry which demands the new skills. It is the South India’s first Deemed University to get accredited by NBA TIER1 accreditation for B. Tech Mechanical Engineering Programme. It has an ambience and specialized laboratories like Automotive Engine Test Facility supported by ARAI, Pune, High Speed Gas turbine bearing test facility Supported by DRDO, Advanced Materials lab supported by Rane Valves, E-waste management facility by DST, Govt of India, Composite Research lab for New material research supported by DST.

The Student in the department get the opportunity to involve themselves in high-end research work to build skills beyond curriculum. In addition to classes, the department organizes regular Lectures by Industry Experts, international faculty from USA, Germany and Taiwan and also arranges industrial visits. Research and development efforts of the School are supported by Government Supported research Organizations like ARAI, DRDO, DST and Industry partners like Wabco, Rane Group and Volkswagen etc., The Student in the department are always encouraged to participate in the design contest.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

  • A strong foundation in mathematics, basic science and engineering fundamentals, to successfully compete for entry level positions and pursue graduate studies in Mechanical Engineering and related fields.
  • Contemporary professional and lifelong learning skills including hands-on experience, familiarity with CAD software packages, technical expertise on engineering materials, thermal sciences, applied mechanics and manufacturing methods to successfully compete in the national and global engineering market.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, broad knowledge, and an understanding of multicultural and global perspectives to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, both as team members and as leaders.
  • Understand societal related issues such as ethical choices, environmental protection, health and safety, and appropriate business skills.

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

The Program provides opportunities for the Students to achieve the following Outcomes:

  • Knowledge in mathematics, basic science, hands-on skills to enter careers related to mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge and technical competency in engineering materials, applied mechanics, thermal sciences and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to identify, formulate and provide solutions for engineering problems.
  • Design and perform an experiment to study the performance of mechanical systems, analyze and interpret the results.
  • Application of current codes and standards with open-ended design experiences that integrate materials, thermal sciences, manufacturing, design analysis or graphics.
  • Ability to use modern tools, equipments, and software for analyzing and solving engineering problems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form and work in a group or multidisciplinary environment.
  • Competency on using manuals, hand books, specific equipments, and related software for testing and design.

  • Knowledge of project management and finance.
  • Understanding of concepts relating to the environmental, economical, and ethical impacts of design.

The journey of my B.Tech life in Vel Tech has been very amazing. I feel very fortunate to have studied here. All the financial supports that Vel Tech has provided me was very necessary and essential in my life. I acknowledge the Vel Tech Management for MGNMS for all four years and the scholarship for internship and bonvoyage.

I sincerely thank all my teachers here who have guided me and brought me to this level to go for abroad and study in Tamkang University Taiwan.

I would also thank my department for providing the best of opportunities available. I will be dedicated and extend my support to my juniors here in whichever way possible. Lastly, I wish this practice of helping and encouraging students financially should remain priority for the Vel Tech management.
