About the Department

ASDFASThe department of aeronautical engineering was established in the year 2007 to produce graduates with core knowledge and skills required by aeronautical industries and research institutes. India’s first and only aeronautical engineering programme to get tier (Washington Accord) Accreditation by NBA. The courses are taught with the industry associated experts from HAL, NAL, GTRE and ISRO. The Special laboratories like Aircraft Simulator lab, Rocket Motor Testing lab, High Speed Bearing test facility are the unique features for student to learn the emerging areas of research. The regular industrial visits and expert lectures from ISRO-SHAR, Sriharikotta , ISRO-VSSC Trivanthapuram, NAL & HAL Bangalore to enable the students to learn the recent advancement in space research. The Student work on developing modules for PICO SATELLITE which jointly supported by Vel Tech and Institution of Engineers (IEI).

  • A strong foundation in mathematics, basic science and engineering fundamentals, to successfully compete for entry level positions and pursue graduate studies in Aeronautical Engineering and related fields.
  • Contemporary professional and lifelong learning skills including hands-on experience, technical expertise on engineering materials, aerodynamics, aircraft structures, propulsion, aircraft systems, avionics and aircraft components manufacturing methods to successfully compete in the national and global engineering market.
  • High quality communication and interpersonal skills, broad knowledge, and an understanding of multicultural and global perspectives to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, both as team members and as leaders.
  • Understand societal related issues such as ethical choices, environmental protection, health and safety, and appropriate business skills.

The Program provides opportunities for the Students to achieve the following Outcomes

  • Ability to use their breadth and depth of knowledge and skills in the fundamental disciplines of aeronautical engineering to pursue successful professional careers.
  • Ability to  conduct Laboratory Experiments such as in engineering Practices, Computer Aided Drafting & Modeling, Strength of Materials, Fluid Mechanics and Machinery, Thermodynamics, Aircraft Structures-I & II , Aerodynamics, Aircraft Structures Repair, Aircraft Design Project –I & II, Propulsion, Aero Engine Repair and Maintenance, Aircraft Systems and  Avionics to investigate and understand Aeronautical Engineering Principles and characteristics of the components and systems.
  • Synthesize information / data from various sources of Aircraft Design and Operations.
  • Ability to apply mathematical and numerical skills to interpret and solve problems for Aircraft Design and for applying core knowledge in aerodynamics, structures, propulsion and power, and dynamics and control to formulate and solve problems in engineering, including the use of current experimental and data analysis techniques.
  • Ability to use aero labs and workshop equipment competently and safely as per Airworthiness standards.
  • Understanding of the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  • Ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for aerospace engineering   practice.
  • Ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and creatively, and to communicate effectively, in applying discipline-specific knowledge in basic sciences and aeronautical engineering.
  • Ability to engage in life-long learning a knowledge of contemporary issues.
  • Ability to apply project management techniques and financial aspects related to aeronautical engineering projects.

Vel Tech has always been a motivating factor in my life. As a person, I have positive outlook towards everything. Of course, things weren’t easy but I will give majority of the Credit to Vel Tech family for the support I received from them and the foundation they gave me at the right time.

During my bachelor’s, I was always keen on talking about current researches and opportunities with professors as I come from Aerospace background and everything about it fascinates me till date.

The efforts made by the management to maintain international relationship gave me highly updated technology with a good Internship experience in Fraunhofer IZFP, Germany which was one of the best things happened to my career as a beginner and now completing masters from a German and a Singaporean university in itself is creditable.

I would like to advice my fellow juniors, to grap the right opportunity and I am sure Vel Tech Family will always be there to encourage and support its students.
