About

AICTE-IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation and Application) Laboratory is being developed in engineering institutions across India to assist students improve their creativity and problem-solving abilities. These laboratories will give students with the necessary equipment and resources to develop their ideas into prototypes. IDEA Labs will include a diverse set of equipment and tools, including 3D printers, laser cutters, and electronics kits. Students will be able to utilize these tools to create their own projects. In addition to technical capabilities, IDEA Labs will assist students build 21st-century skills including critical thinking, cooperation, and communication. Students will be encouraged to collaborate on projects and show their results to others.

IDEA Labs' ultimate objective is to change engineering education and encourage students to be more creative and inventive. AICTE will oversee all IDEA Labs. Data on 15-20 criteria must be given and submitted on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis. Points depending on factors will be combined together to indicate total performance. All IDEA Labs' performance will be reflected on an AICTE-maintained website. The composite score will appear on the website's Leaderboard, which displays each IDEA Lab's weekly position as well as overall performance. This will increase the institution's visibility among stakeholders and get recognition from multiple sources.

AICTE - IDEA Laboratory has been approved for Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology at a total cost of Rs 90 lakh, which includes Rs 60 lakh in non-recurring expenses (equipment, tools, and consumables) and Rs 30 lakh in recurrent expenses (events and activities over two years).

OBJECTIVES

The Vel Tech AICTE IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation and Application) laboratory strives to develop students' inventiveness, resourceful thinking, and spirit of entrepreneurship by offering them with the resources and environment they require to transform their ideas into tangible prototypes. It also aims to impart to students 21st century abilities such as problem-solving, critical thought, and state-of-the-art thinking.

24/7 AVAILABILITY

The IDEA laboratory is intended to be available 24/7 for students to use.

EQUIPPED WITH RESOURCES

IDEA laboratory provides a range of sophisticated equipment and tools, including 3D printers, 3D scanners, AR/VR equipment’s, Embedded Edge devices with varieties of sensors, AI Edge devices, IoT kits, CNC laser cutters, and computer workstations.

INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

IDEA laboratory collaborates with nearby industries to leverage their resources and expertise, fostering a symbiotic relationship between academia and industry.

  1. IDEA laboratory will be open to students & faculty members for 24 hours from Monday to Saturday and between 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. on Sundays.
  2. This lab gives students time and space to explore and leverage innovation ecosystems to gain an innovation-driven entrepreneurial advantage, and to build a stronger culture of innovation.
  3. It provides extensive support for students to generate, develop and commercialize their own innovative ideas through entrepreneurship and/or open innovation.
  4. The laboratory will provide conducive learning environments for students to work individually or collaboratively on entrepreneurial, multidisciplinary projects and Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Management (STEMM).

  10. Students of all disciplines will gain knowledge and skills in 3D printing with hands on experience by means of integrating with existing design thinking course.
  11. Students will be trained from their conceptualization of an idea into a product with design thinking strategies.
  12. Faculty will be acquiring enriched knowledge through organizing more FDPs on STEMM.
  13. Research exposure in their field of interest and conduct the workshops in the emerging fields and technology.
  14. Faculty will be able to interlink with industry and promote industry-institution interaction for developing new products, IPRs and solving real time problems.
  15. The skill development program to rural people and women improves rural productivity, enhances employability, make women entrepreneurs and empowering them with self-sufficient skills to address socio-economic challenges.
  16. Awareness workshop to industry provides know-how on facilities, leveraging the technology and prepare them for efficient usage to provide sustainable solutions.
PLAN FOR SUSTENANCE OF IDEA LAB: +
  1. To enhance a Centre of Excellence through IDEA laboratory.
  2. Availability of IDEA laboratory to the students for 24 × 7 to enhance their skills and competencies.
  3. To organize continuous skill development courses for the students and faculty members of the host and other institutes.
  4. To meet out the requirements of industries' needs / expectations, value-added courses will be organized for students.
  5. To facilitate networking with professional resources which include mentors, experts, and consultants for carrying out research and consultancy works in the college.
  6. To provide training to small scale industries, polytechnic colleges, and nearby schools.
