International Yoga Day – 2018

International Day of Yoga is celebrated annually worldwide on the 21st June since its Declaration in 2015 by the UN. This day is commonly and unofficially referred to as Yoga Day. The idea of International Day of Yoga was first proposed by the current Prime Minister of India, Mr. NarendraModi during his speech at the UNGA, on 27 September 2014. Yoga originated centuries ago in India. It is an ancient Vedic practice.

On this accord, Vel Tech observed the International Day of Yoga. The lists of Yogasnas practiced by students were:

  • AGNISTAMBHASANA or the Fire Log Pose is a good hip opener.
  • BADDHA KONASANA or the Bound Angle Pose improves flexibility of the muscles of the inner thighs, hips and the groins.
  • BALASANAor the Happy Baby Pose is a good hip opener and gives relaxation to the mind.
  • BHADRASANAor the Reverse Warrior Pose is good for energizing the body and improving balance.
  • MALASANAor the Garland Pose gives flexibility to the hip and back muscles.
  • PRANAMASANAor the one-legged prayer pose is a balancing asana.
  • SUKHASANAor the easy seated twist pose is based on the easy seating posture
  • TADASANAor the swaying Palm Tree Pose is a variation of Tadasana.

“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day” — NarendraModi, UN General Assembly.
