Faculty Training Workshop on Coupling the Grand Challenges for Engineering with CDIO organized by Internal Quality Assurance Cell(IQAC)
Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology organized a two day workshop on “Coupling the Grand Challenges for Engineering with CDIO” for its faculty members and external participants from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal and Siddaganga Institute of Technology, Tumkur. Dr. Satesh Namasivayam, Acting Dean, Taylor’s University, Malaysia, is the Resource Person for this two day workshop. Through contemporary instructional modes, he made the participants to understand the fourteen global grand challenges including Make Solar Energy Economical, Engineer Better Medicine, Restore and Improve Urban Infrastructure, Advanced Health Informatics, Provide Access to Clean Water etc, which are both achievable and sustainable to help people and the planet thrive.
To address these grand challenges, Satesh elaborated that how our engineering graduates should be taught using Conceive – Design – implement – Operate (CDIO) curricular framework which is implemented by most QS top ranked institutions such as MIT- USA, Chalmers – Sweden, Standardford- USA and Leeds- UK. Since Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr.Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science and Technology is the first member from India to join CDIO worldwide initiative, the participants of the workshop well received and presented the progress of Vel Tech’s CDIO implementation vis-à-vis providing solutions for both grand challenges in India and global grand challenges.
