Biotechnology is currently the entry level educational qualification that is treated on par with medical field.
Post COVID, there is now a huge demand for Vaccines, Enzymes, Drugs and students need to be fully equipped with the necessary skills to meet these emergent challenges.
Biotechnology is a golden tool to solve some of the key global problems like global warming, Pandemics and above all; poverty. Recent advances in synthetic biology, bioenergy, bioremediation, virtual cell, genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics and bio-nanotechnology have made biotechnology even more powerful.
Career opportunities are plentiful both in India as well as in abroad with pharmaceutical companies, chemical, agriculture and healthcare sectors. They can also be employed in the areas of planning, production and management of bio-processing industries
The Department possesses highly qualified faculty members from Premier Institutions of India and abroad working on various frontier research areas of Biotechnology such as Nanobiotechnology, Metabolic Engineering, Environmental Biotechnology, Biomaterials Engineering, Interfaces and Nanomaterials. This ensures worldclass curriculum and pedagogy.
If you are passionate about Biology, Medicine, Life, the removal of human and animal suffering through technology, then Biotechnology is the right choice for you ! Biotechnology is strongly rooted in Biological Sciences and Engineering and has multiple applications primarily in the Medical, Pharmaceutical, Industrial and Agricultural sectors. A Biotechnologist directly manipulates the molecules of life within the Cell (DNA, Gene sequences within the DNA, Protein).
There is a tremendous increase in the use of Biotechnology for developing solutions to other industries. Biocomposites and Enzymes made from controlled bioprocesses are revolutionizing the materials industry. Advanced biotechnological concepts in the areas of Bioenergy and Biofuels are creating newer avenues in sustainability and directly influence the nation’s economy.
The student undertaking the B.Tech. Biotechnology course will gain insights on both the Biological Sciences and engineering. The curriculum broadly covers Life-Science subjects such as Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology. The Engineering aspect of Biotechnology comes forth through understanding of biotechnology specific Engineering subjects like Genetic Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Biological Mass Transfer, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Upstream and Downstream engineering.
The curriculum also offers a broad variety of core electives that enable the student to choose their career path and specialize in the domain of their choice. Dynamic Interdisciplinary Research environment to support Industrial placement.
Department regularly hosts International Professors to handle courses in cutting edge technologies from premier International Universities such as Orleans University, France and Aarhus University, Denmark. The projects follow world renowed CDIO mode of instruction where students can take up mini projects of their liking at any time of their studies and develop into products and business ideas.
