B.Tech. Mechanical Engineering with specialization in Automobile Engineering

This programme is jointly conducted by Vel Tech, GARC – Chennai and ARAI – Pune to develop a new breed of engineers required for the ever expanding automotive industry. We thrive to improve the technical & professional skills of the students through various teaching methods, hands on & out of classroom education. Emphasis will be laid on project based learning that integrates research, education & outreach.

The students will do their project either at Vel Tech, GARC, ARAI or at any automotive & Allied Industry.
Guest Lecture on “Engineering Materials (Materials in Automotive Industry)” by Mr. S. Srinivasan, Divisional Manager, M/s. Ashok Leyland, Chennai held on 29.10.2018 at Vel Tech Chennai.
Vel Tech Team RUDHVA consists of 25 members from B.Tech level participated in the three-day Bharath Formula Karting Championship (BFKC) organised by Cadd Technologies, Coimbatore, at the Kari Motor Speedway from 2nd to 4th August 2018.
The Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) is in SIPCOT Industrial Growth Center at Oragadam, near Chennai in the close proximity of Global manufacturing facility. The GARC, NATRiP is having testing facilities to conduct a full spectrum of homologation and performance testing of automobiles. Students will spend last year at GARC to get exposure to latest technology related to testing and research.
Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is a well-known Automotive Research, Development, Testing & Certification Institute in the country. It has state-of-the-art testing facilities and laboratories. Through ARAI Academy, the students get the latest training, which help them to meet the requirements of the Automotive Industry. ARAI will mentor this programme.
Dr. R. Rangarajan, Founder Chancellor & President, Vel Tech said, “We are very proud to roll out this B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering with specialisation in Automobile Engineering to address the need for skilled graduate engineers for the automotive sector in India. We will work on the advanced facilities which will encourage our budding engineers to face the industry requirements. We expect that this will make VEL TECH students better equipped and more confident to serve the design, development and manufacturing areas of automotive sector”.
Shri Sanjay Bandopadhyaya (IAS), CEO & Project Director, NATRiP said, “As per Automotive Mission Plan 2026, we aspire to become world’s third largest vehicle manufacturers by 2026. For this we need 65 million human resource in the next 10 years. This will help to improve the contribution of automotive and allied industry to the Nation’s GDP by 10%. GARC is one of the important testing and research Organization in the southern part of India, where the B.Tech students would spent last year of their study”.
Mrs. Rashmi Urdhwareshe, Director, The Automotive Research Association of India said, “As a part of its Skill Development Initiative, ARAI has been conducting B.Tech, M.Tech & Ph.D Programmes in collaboration with various Universities in India and abroad. ARAI will mentor VEL TECH & GARC to run this full time B.Tech Programme with a very high level of commitment and knowledge dissemination. The curriculum has been designed as per the latest technology”.

The Global Automotive Research Center (GARC) Chennai, the Southern centre of NATRiP will has testing facilities to conduct a full spectrum of homologation and performance testing of automobiles ranging from two and three wheelers to heavy commercial vehicles. Students will spend last year at GARC to get exposure to latest technology related to testing and research.
ARAI It has state-of-the-art testing facilities and laboratories like the Powertrain Engineering Lab, Emission Certification Lab, Safety & Homologation Lab, Passive Safety Lab, Vehicle Evaluation Lab, Structural Dynamics Lab, Automotive Electronics Lab, Automotive Materials Lab and NVH & CAE Lab. Through ARAI Academy the students get the latest training, which helps them to meet the requirements of the Automotive Industry.
ELIGIBILITY: Minimum 60% of marks in XII or its equivalent examination of any recognized Board/Institution with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as major subjects
